FAQs

1. Once I place my order how long will it take to get my countertops?

There are many circumstances that can determine the length of time between when you place your order and when we template for your countertops. The length of time between template and installation of your countertop is 7-10 working days.

2. What countertop materials need to be sealed?

Natural stones are the only products that need to be sealed.

3. Do you seal your granite?

Yes, every stone countertop is sealed before it leaves our facility.

4. How often do I need to seal my stone countertops?

If you have your countertops sealed with Stonelock 15 Year Sealer, you would not have to reseal them for 15 years. If you have standard sealer applied, then you would have to reseal your countertops every 12 months.

5. Can I cut on my countertop?

Yes, however it is recommended that you use a cutting board made of wood or plastic as cutting on the stone will dull your knives quickly and you could possibly damage your countertop.

6. Which stone products are best suited for different applications?

In the kitchen, granite is the stone that is best suited for use in a heavy traffic application. For lighter traffic areas such as bathrooms, bars and vertical applications any stones including granite can be used.

7. How do I clean my countertops?

Soap and water is the best product to use, but there are other cleaners that may be used depending on what material the countertop is made from. Solid Surface can be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner such as Windex or cleaners made specifically for solid surface. Quartz can be cleaned with a mild household cleaner such as 409. Natural stone should be cleaned with a ph balance stone cleaner.

8. What type of sink can I use in my countertop?

Any type of under-mount or drop-in sink can be used.

9. Which countertop materials can be repaired?

All countertop materials can be repaired to a certain degree. The countertop material that has the most repair options is solid surface.

10. Which countertop materials can be used outside of the house?

Granite and acrylic solid surface are the only products that we recommend for exterior application.

11. The stone I selected has pits in it. Is this normal?

Yes, the degree to which this occurs depends greatly on the color and type of stone that has been selected. This is normal and should be expected.

12. How are seam placements determined?

A combination of the following elements determine where seams are located in a countertop:

    1. Slab size of material selected.

    2. Movement in the material

    3. Layout of the job

    4. Logistics of getting the countertops in the building

    5. Manufacturers requirements

13. How thick is 3cm?

1 3/16 inches

14. Will my countertop have seams?

That can only be determined after the material and color have been selected.

15. If I have seams in my countertop will I see them?

If you have selected Natural Stone or Quartz, you will see the seams. If you have selected Solid Surface, the seams will be inconspicuous.

16. Can I set hot items on my countertop?

No matter what the countertop is made of, we recommend that you always use a trivet to set hot things on instead of setting them directly on the countertop surface. Some materials are less vulnerable to heat damage than others but all materials are susceptible to thermal shock.
