Granite and Natural Stone
Granite and Natural Stone are the most desirable countertop materials used in
the kitchen and bathroom today. Their popularity is due to the beauty,
versatility, and superior performance characteristics of Stone.
Granite is one
of the hardest and strongest materials in nature. It has a crystal-like, elegant
appearance, which is attributed to its formation from rising magma, which
solidified and cooled down slowly over millions of years under the Earths crust.
Because granite is composed of quartz and feldspars (7 and 6 respectively, on
the Mohs Hardness Scale), it is more durable than softer man-made materials such
as acrylics, polyesters, and laminates.
Marbles and
other natural stones were formed in the earth’s crust under extreme temperature
and pressure. Although not quite as hard as granite, they are ideal products for
use as bathroom vanities and bar tops.
From a design
perspective Natural Stone has no equal. A broad spectrum of colors and an
interesting array of patterns offer endless possibilities. The available choices
in Stone are continually expanding as more countries and regions around the
globe begin to open quarries and bring new colors to market. |
